Porcelain Painting Tours

Germany is the birthplace of European porcelain. Until today the great tradition of artful handcrafted porcelain is very much alive at porcelain manufacturers in Germany & Austria.

In the early 18th century endeavors were made in Germany to unlock the secret of porcelain manufacturing. The orders were given by Augustus II "the Strong", the Electoral Prince of Saxony and King of Poland. In 1708, European porcelain was invented by J.F. Boettger in Dresden. In 1710, white porcelain was manufactured in Meissen, Germany, for the first time in Europe. Founded in 1718, the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory Augarten is the second oldest in Europe. Many other today world-renowned manufacturers of high-quality

European porcelain have been founded since then – such as the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manfactory (Munich, Germany) and the Augarten Porcelain Manufactory (Vienna, Austria) as just two fine examples.

Our 2017 “Porcelain Painting Art & Beyond” Tour includes a 4-day porcelain painting class the experienced professional and reknown artists Jörg & Petra Kugelmeier. The class has absolute priority but if time allows we will take you on brief excursions in the beautiful Lenggries area in the afternoons (Tegernsee lake / Bad Tölz / Sylvenstein lake / Gondola ride in the mountains etc.).

We will visit the prestigious Vienna Porcelain Manufactory Augarten in Austria and the wonderful Nymphenburg porcelain collection in Munich, Germany. You will also have plenty of time to discover historic places, palaces, shops, scenic landscapes and, last but not least, the many authentic local culinary delights Germany and Austria have to offer. We will visit the Melk Monastery – a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. This tour also takes you to the rural scenic countryside and to charming small towns & villages in Germany and Austria including the Salzkammergut area in the Austrian Alps and Lenggries at the edge of the German Alp Mountains.
